A Life-Changing Gift for an Injured Hero in White Plains, Maryland September 11, 2025

Building Homes for Heroes, in partnership with Lennar and SAIC, celebrated a truly meaningful moment in White Plains, Maryland, on September 9th as we gifted a mortgage-free home to retired U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman Petty Officer Second Class Adams Amisu and his family. Adams' journey is one of remarkable dedication—after immigrating to the United States from Ghana in 2005, he proudly served seven years in the Navy, providing medical care to his fellow service members and earning multiple commendations including the National Defense Service Medal and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
While Adams found his military service incredibly rewarding, the physical and mental toll was significant. He now lives with lumbar degenerative disc disease, PTSD, insomnia, and anxiety—conditions that ultimately led to his medical discharge from the Navy. Despite these challenges, Adams has persevered with what he calls his "life's mission" to care for others, guided by a lesson from his upbringing in Ghana: "life doesn't give you what you deserve, but what you're willing to fight for."
Now, through this gift of a mortgage-free home, his community is giving back and caring for him and his family, providing the stability and support this dedicated veteran has earned through his service to our nation.
Building Homes for Heroes is grateful to Lennar and SAIC for helping to change the lives of the Amisu family.
