Life-Changing Announcement for a Bronze Star Veteran November 25, 2024

Army Command Sergeant Gretchen Evans, who served for 27 years and is a past recipient of the Pat Tillman Award for Service, was recently surprised with the announcement that she would be a future recipient of a mortgage-free home!

Together with Hillwood Communities and Highland Homes, the life-changing moment took place at the Ross Perot Freedom Museum in Dallas alongside Ross Perot Jr.

It was during a deployment to Afghanistan when Gretchen was severely injured in a rocket blast. She suffered total hearing loss and a traumatic brain injury, which would end her military career. In the months to come, she suffered from severe depression and PTSD.

After sustaining these life-altering injuries, Evans founded Team UNBROKEN, an adaptive racing team of mostly veterans who have experienced life-altering injuries, illness, or traumas. She also inspires others as a motivational speaker.

The Bronze Star recipient was inducted into the U.S. Army Women’s Hall of Fame and U.S. Veteran Hall of Fame.

We look forward to gifting Gretchen’s well-deserved home next year!
