UPDATE: Congratulations Kirstie! Nearly 30 days climbing Everest and 600 feet from the top! We couldn’t be prouder!

Her accomplishments are a testament to her valor and indomitable spirit she has demonstrated throughout her military service and in her personal life. Retired Marine Sgt. Kirstie Ennis, a 2017 home recipient who serves as our lead ambassador is preparing this month to climb Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world above sea level!
Kirstie suffered severe injuries and lost her left leg after a military helicopter crash in June 2012 in Afghanistan. After multiple surgeries and recovery, she has participated in a variety of adaptive sports and is the first female amputee to summit Aconcagua Mountain in Argentina.
Support from Building Homes for Heroes: Kirstie has not been defined by her struggles, but by the way she has heroically overcome them. In 2017, we gifted her a home in the mountains of Colorado. Four years later, we supported her climb of Denali in Alaska, the highest peak in North America.
Zoom in: Kirstie has continued to inspire by climbing the six of the world’s tallest mountains: Denali, Aconcagua in South America, Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa, Vinson in Antarctica, Elbrus in Europe and Mount Carstensz in Asia – unimaginably, she has done this all using a prosthetic leg.
