General Information:
- Homes are awarded to injured and disabled veterans, as well as Gold Star families, who are not currently homeowners on an availability basis. *While we do our best to help as many veterans and veteran families as we can, we make no representation that submitting a completed application will result in a home award.
- Once you submit your application and all necessary supporting documents, there is nothing more you will need to do. Due to the large volume of applications received, we will contact you if we should need any additional information or if you have been selected to be interviewed.
- If you wish to update your application and cannot do so online, please email any updates to applications@buildinghomesforheroes.org. Due to the large volume of applicants, you will not receive a response unless more information is needed.
- Home decisions are made on an individual basis. Each case is unique and you should not rely on the information or process of another recipient or candidate for a future outcome.
The way the program works:
- Building Homes for Heroes has specific homes that are available for donation. If you find a home you would like to be considered for, write down the city and state the home is located in. You will be asked to indicate which home you are applying for on the application. *You can apply for as many homes as you would like.
- If you are applying for more than one home, please number each home in the order in which you would prefer them. If you cannot find any available homes on our website that you are interested in applying for, please be sure to indicate what areas you are interested in residing in, and why, on your application. Homes are uploaded to our website as they become available, so be sure to visit the website periodically and let us know if you find any homes you would like to be considered for. We do not know if, or when, a home will become available in any specific area. It is up to you to monitor the available homes and email applications@buildinghomesforheroes.org when you have found a home to add to your application.
- Applications will be considered for new home builds in limited circumstances. In order to be considered, you must have already received your approval letter from the VA for the Specially Adaptive Housing (SAH) grant. Please submit this letter with your application.
General Information:
- Home Modification Grants are awarded to injured and disabled veterans, as well as Gold Star families, who are currently homeowners. *While we will do our best to help as many as we can, we make no representation that submitting a completed application will result in receiving grant funding.
- Once an application and all necessary supporting documents have been submitted, you do not need to do anything else. Due to the large volume of applications received, we will only contact you if we should need any additional information or if you have been selected to be interviewed.
- If you wish to update your application and cannot do so online, please email any updates to applications@buildinghomesforheroes.org. Due to the large volume of applicants, you will not receive a response unless more information is needed.
- Home Modification Grant decisions are made on an individual basis. Each case is unique, and you should not rely on the information or process of another recipient or candidate for future outcomes.
- If a grant is approved, you (the homeowner) will grant a security interest in the property in the amount of the funding provided by Building Homes for Heroes for five years from the date of completion of improvements.
- If you (the homeowner) is chosen to receive a grant, you will be responsible for obtaining bids/estimates for the work to be done on your home by a licensed and insured contractor. All bids/estimates will need to be approved by Building Homes for Heroes Inc. before the work begins.
- All grant recipients must provide Building Homes for Heroes with before and after photos of all work performed in their home.

Common FAQs:
- Q: If I submit an application, will I get awarded a home or a home modification/repair grant?

- Q: How long does it take to get approved?
- A: Since there is no guarantee that an applicant will get chosen, there is no specific timeframe for if, or when, you may receive an award.
- Q: What if I don't see an available house on your website that I would like to apply for?
- A: If you do not see any available homes on our website that you are interested in applying for, please be sure to indicate what areas you are interested in residing in, and why, on your application.
- Q: What if I don't have all of the required documents when I'm filling out the application?
- A: If unavailable at the time, please upload a word document detailing your specific situation. Once you receive the document, you may then email it to us.
- Q: If I have been charged of a crime, am I still eligible to apply?
