Fred Balda

Member, Advisory Board

As the president of Hillwood Communities, Fred Balda provides strategic leadership and oversees all aspects of operations within Hillwood Communities including acquisitions, design, and development. During his tenure at Hillwood, Fred has played an active role in the development of 89 master-planned communities and 28,000 residential lots across 13 states and two countries. Because Hillwood Communities is recognized as one of the top residential development companies in the country, he’ll be the first person to acknowledge that creating a community is a complex and rewarding proposition that goes far beyond place and proximity.

Fred is continually expanding and redefining Hillwood Communities’ business plan to satisfy everchanging homebuyer demands and market opportunities. He bases the foundation of each new community on the organization’s Live Smart? principles, which range from keeping the well-being of future homebuyers in mind to being good stewards of both the land and the environment. Of his division’s accomplishments, Fred is particularly proud of Hillwood’s community-wide initiatives to support local charities like North Texas Food Bank, Building Homes for Heroes, and Operation Finally Home.

Fred joined Hillwood Communities in 1992 from ClubCorp where he managed the development of several golf courses across the U.S. Previous to that, he began his real estate career with Trammel Crow as a Project Manager of several master-planned communities in North Texas. He is passionate about sharing his industry insights and expertise through his involvement with the Urban Land Institute, Texas Real Estate Commission, Dallas Builders Association, local chambers of commerce, and the Plano Planning & Zoning Commission.

Thanks to his strong leadership role both at Hillwood and in the community at large, Fred was recognized in 2013 by the Dallas Business Journal with the Minority Business Leader Award and has been honored as D CEO’s Dallas 500 several years running.

Fred is a proud graduate of Texas A&M University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering. In 2017 he was honored with the Distinguished Graduate Award from the Zachry Department of Civil Engineering at Texas A&M University. He continues to support his alma mater by serving as a board member in the Masters in Real Estate Council and the Civil Engineering Advisory Council.

Fred and his wife Cindy live in Dallas, Texas and are proud parents of three sons.
