Hundreds celebrate the Homecoming for wounded Marine

Hundreds of supporters were on hand in Riverview, Florida on Saturday, May 21 to welcome Marine Corps Corporal Anthony Trzeciak, his wife Tara, and their children into their new home, gifted mortgage-free from Building Homes for Heroes.

“I’ve been down a lot over the years,” said Corporal Trzeciak, who has been in a wheelchair for nearly four years after suffering head and back injuries in an IED explosion in Afghanistan. A nearly-deadly infection afterwards paralyzed him from the waist down.

The ground-up home was built by William Ryan Homes, in partnership with Building Homes for Heroes. Throughout the house, handicap-accessible features such as ramps, lowered counter tops and cabinets, and spacious hallways were implemented to help Corporal Trzeciak live more comfortably.

Among the attendees were the Riverview High School Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, local Boy and Cub Scout troops, representatives from Chase, the Patriot Guard Riders, the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association, the Alexander Keith Memorial Pipe Band, and the Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.

Jeff Thorson, the Division President of William Ryan Homes, was also on hand. Singing the National Anthem was singer Liane Houde of the University of Tampa, and an aircraft flyover was conducted by Warbirds Adventure, Inc.

For his service his country, Corporal Trzeciak has been awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with one Bronze Service Star, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (2nd Award), Armed Forces Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, NATO Medal-ISAF Afghanistan, and the Rifle Qualification Badge (Sharpshooter).

Building Homes for Heroes is aiming to gift as many as 36 mortgage-free homes to injured veterans in 2016, equal to one home every 10 days.

Thank you to Corporal Trzeciak for your service and sacrifice!
